culture bloc
A space where communities of color gather, create, and imagine their future together.
About Culture Bloc
Culture Bloc is an emerging initiative that uses music, poetry, dance, food, film, and visual art to build meaningful relationships among communities of color.
In this pilot year, Artistic Principal Mic Crenshaw is co-creating this program with artists and culture workers from Portland’s Black and Afro-descended communities.
The goals of Culture Bloc are to:
- Strengthen relationships within and between communities of color by building trust and familiarity. We do this through cultural exchange work, primarily through the sharing of art, music and food across boundaries.
- Promote cultural resilience and solidarity within and among these communities.
- Connect people with resources to increase their communities' self-determination.
