about the genius artist program
The Genius Artist Program (GAP) recognizes and celebrates exceptional artists who are driven by deep creative spirits, despite significant barriers. GAP exists to invest in that spirit by supporting them with the resources, relationships and runway to bring major work into the world on their own terms.
Each Genius Artist fellow is paired with an Artistic Principal from New Room Studios who helps them realize a project that only they can make. This partnership includes strategic guidance, administrative infrastructure, financial support and hands-on creative collaboration.

The 18-month Genius Artist fellowship offers small cohorts of artists:
- $10,000 in flexible support, structured to meet each fellow's circumstances
- Peer mentorship from an NRS Artistic Principal
- Co-production of a major artistic project, from development through public presentation
- Resource navigation and professional referrals to help build sustainable practices beyond the fellowshi
- Audience development
- Inclusion in a growing artist community
Genius Artist eligibility: This program is for artists who have a history of making exceptional works despite significant barriers. Fellows are selected by invitation only.
Timeline: The next 18-month cohort will launch in mid-2027.
